FAQ’s – Vinyl Graphics / Decals

Q. Can I go through a car wash/pressure wash?

A. Vinyl graphics should be cleaned carefully with a sponge and warm soapy water then rinsed with clean water. Use a silicone squeegee to remove excess water and finish with a microfibre cloth – taking particular care at the edges of graphics. Do not use chamois leathers or cloths as these may lift and catch the finer parts and edges of the decals. Avoid the use of abrasive cleaners, chemicals or solvents. Automated car washes should not be used. Pressure washers may be used but ensure the water pressure is kept below 2000 psi, use a spray nozzle with a 40 degree wide angle spray pattern and keep the nozzle at least 1 foot away from the graphic and at 90 degrees. PLEASE NOTE: Holding the nozzle at an angle and to the side may lift the graphic.

Q. Will the graphics damage my paintwork?

A. Vinyl graphics should not damage your cars surface or paintwork in any way, if it is of a “factory standard”. However, if the graphics are subject to direct sunlight then you may see a difference in colour where the graphic was when you come to remove it. This usually takes several years but will vary from car to car and according to colour. We are unable to accept any responsibility for any damage caused by application or removal of graphics.

Q. Can I wax over the graphic?

A. We recommend you do not apply any chemicals to the graphic. Chemicals may react with the vinyl and cause it to crack and deteriorate. Using mild soap and water will keep your graphics looking good for many years. If wax does come into contact with the graphic we recommend using wax remover / degreaser to remove it and then soap and water. To prevent build up of wax around the edges of your graphic, use a cotton bud with the wax remover to remove it. Leaving wax on the graphics may eventually lead to problems.

Q. How do I remove my graphics?

A. If the graphic was recently installed it should peel away relatively easily. To remove any of the sticky surfaces left behind we recommend using soap and water or a glue remover available from motor part stores.

If the graphics have been on the vehicle for some time, the graphics may peel off in small pieces, which can take some time. You may want to try using a hairdryer to soften the adhesive. We find using a wallpaper steam remover is very quick. Using a squeegee or plastic edge to lift the corners of the graphic will help the removal process. Some people recommend using heat gun to soften the adhesive, but this should be used with caution to avoid damaging the paintwork.

Try to peel the graphic away at a 45 degree angle as this helps to remove the majority of the adhesive with the graphic.

Q.  I’ve just had my car spray painted, how long should I wait before I install my graphics?

A. You should check directly with the body shop that painted the vehicle to see what ‘curing’ time they recommend.

Q. What conditions are suitable for installing vinyl graphics?

A. It is recommended that graphics be installed when it is warm, not too hot otherwise the vinyl is prone to stretching. If it is too cold (less than 80c) it will take longer for the adhesive to adhere.

Q. Do I need to wait long after I have applied my graphics to show them off?

A. Your car is ready for outdoor exposure straight after applying the graphics; however it does take 48 hours for the adhesive to bond fully.

Q. How do I care for my graphics?

Q. How long will the vinyl graphics last for?

A. It varies, depending on the graphics you have purchased, and if they are printed or cut vinyls but usually between 3 – 7 years.

Q. Are vinyl decals reusable?

A. No, once removed the graphics become stretched and misshapen.

Q. Do you make custom vinyl decals?

Q. Will I receive a copy of the original artwork?

A. Yes, we can arrange this but may charge a small fee, especially if we originally created the design. We will also hold a copy of your artwork in store in case it is needed in the future.

Q. What image formats do you accept for custom decals?

A. We accept most image formats (pdf, jpeg, gif, tiff, eps etc)
